My name is Kevin McAfee and I've been tuning and repairing pianos in Austin for over 15 years.
Tuning pianos has served as a special vehicle for connecting with the world over the years — so much so that I wrote a book about it. The Piano Tuner: A Journalistic Memoir is the story of what I discovered about music, people, and life through the quiet intimacy of this work.
I've been blessed to be able to share music in a way that allows me to earn a living alongside my real estate business here in central Texas. Both pursuits keep me deeply connected to the Austin community I grew up in.
As a human being I know that music transcends every degree of separation imaginable — and as a musician, I know that a well-tuned piano is infinitely more inspiring to play than one that hasn't been touched in years.
