Finding The Right Piano

Pianos range in size, tone, style, and brand. Personally I prefer Japanese pianos. Yamaha produces a range of pianos, some made in Japan and others in the US. Buying one is like buying a Toyota in the sense that they last forever, rarely need major repairs, and are consistent in their style, tone and design. They’re commonly found in professional recording studios.

Buying a Kawai piano is more like buying a Lexus. They’re built similarly to a Yamaha, but with nicer materials. Kawai pianos also produce a more American tone more akin to a Steinway – they’re also hand made like a Steinway. They’re both great, work well for the studio or on stage, and of course make a great instrument to have at home.

If you want to spend $40k+ on a Steinway, definitely contact the Steinway gallery. If you’re looking for a used, restored or refurbished Yamaha or Kawai piano, or any high quality used piano for that matter – I’m your guy. I work closely with the best importers and collectors in Austin, and if you need help finding a good one, I will beat any music store’s price point with a full A440 tuning and delivery.
